Q&A with Diane Gilman

1. Why do you love TVSN?
I love the TVSN spirit! Happy, sunny and bright!

2. Why do you think your jeans are so popular with our viewers?
I think our jeans are popular because women age the same all over the world! What was once high begins to fall, and what was narrow in our youth begins to spread. We need a jean with solutions built-in for all women, especially women over 40. That's DG2!

3. If you could only own one pair of jeans which style would you choose?
I'm a Skinny-Jean kind of a girl. ‎I love the footwear versatility of a lean jean silhouette!

4. What is the best compliment you have ever received?
The most touching compliment ever came from a customer calling into a show. She said she went to a high profile Hollywood party dressed in DG2. Brad Pitt was introduced to her, and he said she looked so pretty, and that they should take a picture together. Then she told me she was completely blind, but I was so good at describing each style that she knew she could trust me. She said she knew she would be one of the best dressed at this event. I still tear up every time I think of that call. It was so touching to me.

5. Do you have a daily motto/mantra?
I have 2 daily mantras. The first is "Fortune favors the bold". I've taken risks all my life. The second is truly apt for the current situation of hunkering down at home and is "Don't count the days, make the days count!" The quote is from Muhammad Ali and has never been truer than these days!

6. If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
Simple! I would tell my younger self not to worry so much! I'd tell my older self the same thing! Haha!

7. How do you like to unwind?
I unwind with cheesy horror movies! I just LOVE them!

8. Do you collect anything?
I collect shoes and handbags! What I really collect (or hope to) are beautiful, heartfelt memories.

9. Who would play you in a movie about your life?
My youthful movie years would be Scarlett Johansson. My current years would be Jessica Lange.

10. What makes a woman beautiful?
My idea of lasting beauty is a beautiful, generous, loving spirit which emanates from within.

11. What would be your superpower?
My superpower would be making dreams come true.

12. What's next for Diane Gilman?
The next 'Act' for me is my 2nd book—a very candid journey into improbable success, against all the odds!

13. What are you thankful for today?
I'm grateful for so much! I am so, so grateful for my health and quite frankly, my life. I'm thankful for my undying passion for fashion design—a flame that has never dimmed. I'm also so grateful for my female fans and customers. They're my extended family!

14. Do you have a theme song?
Of course—my theme song (which is so age-telling) is Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive'! Amen!
