Signature Scent

Fragrances make delightful gifts. Why? Because fragrances are special. After all, it’s not every day that we go and buy ourselves a new perfume. Scent evokes our emotions. A fragrance gift tells someone that they hold and a special place in your heart and shows how much you care.

With so many ways to gift fragrance, there’s no reason to feel intimidated. Follow some simple advice and discover just how easy it can be to give the truly meaningful gift of fragrance.

Perfume, Eau de Parfum & EDT

Wrapped in exquisite packaging, an elegant bottle of perfume tells your beloved that they are special. Perfume, Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette are personal and intimate gifts reserved for those you hold dearest.

Perfume, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette- Whats the difference?

The major difference lies in the concentration of the product. Many people feel confused by this and struggle to select the right bottle. All three are wonderful; it simply depends on how you want to use it.

  • Perfume is the most concentrated preparation, with a percentage between 15 and 30% of raw materials diluted in alcohol. This preparation does not contain water.
  • Eau de parfum has a percentage of essences between 10 and 15%.
  • Eau de toilette has a percentage between 8 and 10%.

Perfume

Strong and heady, perfume is the most concentrated solution. Apply sparingly with just a few touches on the pulse points. This luxurious fragrance will last the whole day.

Eau de Parfum

The lighter concentration, diffusion and lasting intensity make Eau de Parfum perfect for daily use. EDP can be sprayed more liberally, on your neck or on even on certain clothes.  Although it lasts all day, you may reapply in the evening for enhancement.

Eau de Toilette

Thanks to a lower concentration, EDT is characterised by its lightness, subtlety, and freshness. More ephemeral than Eau de Parfum, it is ideal for the summer season. What’s more,  EDT can be reapplied several times during the day.

Strike the Right Note

Choosing a scent for someone else may seem like a daunting task. But it needn’t be. A little thought and research now will pay off later. Consider these points when making a selection:

  • Scents can be your way to show a person what emotions and feelings he or she evokes in you. A perfume is a fresh opportunity to describe someone with a smell.
  • Finding a connection to the wearer – Make a link with the person from an element of the fragrance mix. For example, a perfume can evoke cherished memories of the place you met, a time of the day, a favourite material, a memorable moment, the place you travelled.
  • What are the personality traits of the wearer? How would you describe them? Bright, discreet, deep and intense or sparkling, light and bubbly. Are they complex or simple? Natural or sophisticated?
  • Never buy a fragrance for a person just because it smells good on someone else. Consider the wearer– if they're sporty perhaps go for something green and fresh. For someone quiet- consider something classic.
  • Find out why a person you care about likes a particular scent. Is it that this smell calms and soothes them, or does it invigorate and inspire them? Perhaps this fragrance represents escapism, desire or peace of mind.
  • Light fresh fragrances or heavy sensual smells? Sniff out the fragrances the wearer currently uses- or check the bathroom shelf. Find the olfactive family that your recipient’s signature scent belongs and choose another scent from that neighbourhood

Fragrance Jewellery

Another fabulous way to gift scent is with fragrance jewellery. As unique as it is beautiful, Lisa Hoffman’s fragrance jewellery collection gives wearers the freedom to wear perfume without having scent touch their skin.

Each piece of jewellery comes adorned with a filigree charm to fill with fragrance beads. Simply unclasp the charm to fill with beads for scent that lasts as long as a month. Wear one piece, stack or layer the jewellery, or mix different fragrance beads together within the charm for a custom scent.

Not only is this a beautiful way to gift scent, it’s suitable for those with sensitive skin. What’s more, it’s risk-free, allowing the wearer to mix, match and choose the scents they love.

For the Home

Set the mood. Harness the emotional power of scent by giving a fragrance gift for the home. Scent impacts our mood because the olfactory bulb is located in the limbic system where our emotions and memories live. Send your recipient on an emotional journey with a great home fragrance gift.

There are many great ways to gift fragrance, including scented candles, wax melts, incense, and diffusers. You can choose according to the space- floral for the living areas, oceanic for the bathrooms, herby for the kitchen or woody for the entranceway.  Perhaps choose according to the season- citrus and floral scents for summer or cozy woody scents for winter. Consider festive notes like fresh pine, spiced orange, and frankincense which transport us back to childhood Christmas's.

Unique Ways to Gift Scent

Thankfully, there are plenty of beautiful ways to gift scent. If your loved one already has their favourite fragrance they might like the shower gel or body lotion version of it. Gifting packs with several different fragranced items inside allows the recipient to go on a fragrance exploration and discover something new.

However you decide to choose your scent, the most important thing is to keep an open mind. Remember, there’s no such thing as ‘bad’ in the world of fragrance, only personal preference.
